My commitment to serving others was not born out of theory, but out of a profound family legacy.In the early 1980s, my grandfather, attorney Guillermo Gómez Arana, stepped in as director of the Acapantzingo Penitentiary in Morelos, Mexico—an impenetrable bunker behind a 70-year-old iron gate.He chose to run the institution with a revolutionary focus on human dignity:
Clearing Legal Backlogs: He worked tirelessly to free individuals who had served their time without a proper sentence.
Restorative Programs: He introduced arts, trades workshops, and trust-based pilot programs.
*"El Ángel Blanco": His profound compassion earned him this title among the inmates.
Decades later, that exact same engine drives Spes Nova LLC. What my grandfather did intuitively in Acapantzingo, we now organize as a framework of faith, hope, and charity—bringing order to chaos, dignity to isolation,
and second chances to those who need them most.

A Special Note on Funding for Our Foster & Unhoused Programs
While in-kind donations are wonderful for our detention center ministry, *monetary donations are strongly preferred for our Foster and Unhoused programs.Because the ages, genders, and immediate personal needs of foster children and unhoused individuals vary widely, keeping a static inventory is impractical. As a newly certified foster parent (certified July 2026), my mission is to provide a safe, loving, and nurturing home for children entering the foster care system. While basic daily necessities (like food, shelter, and utilities) are covered by standard state stipends, true healing and restoration often happen through the "extras"—the simple everyday joys that allow a child to just be a kid.

ICE DETENTION MINISTRY AND LOCAL DETENTION CENTERS.Moving beyond local borders, Spes Nova LLC conducts bi-monthly (every 1–2 months) mission trips to the ICE Detention Facility in Lumpkin, Georgia. Our primary focus is serving monolingual Spanish-speaking detainees—individuals who face not only physical confinement, but intense language isolation and spiritual solitude.While our core anchor is Catholic/Christian mercy, we offer compassionate accompaniment to all individuals regardless of background—whether Latin American, Anglo-European, Hindu, Jewish, or non-religious. Multilingual donations beyond Spanish/English are greatly appreciated to expand our cross-culture and language outreach.

Spiritual Nourishment: we are working to bring the Holy Scraments back to the detainees by sposoring visiting priests so detainees can pray the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, have quite prayer in God's presence thorugh Eucharistic Adoration, The Grace of Reconciliantion, spiritual growth and accompaniment,
Facility & Personal Book Donations: Providing approved Spanish and bilingual Bibles, spiritual literature, and reading materials for both personal ownership and the facility library.
Faith & Prayer Supplies: Distributing approved rosaries, prayer cards, and devotional guides to encourage daily hope and spiritual endurance.
Language Support & Bible Studies: Facilitating gentle, bilingual Bible study reflections and warm, human conversation to break through isolation.

The priestly presence at the facility provides the foundation from which the sacramental and spiritual life of the Catholic detainees can be sustained
The population we serve within an immigration detention facility is, by nature, continually changing. Many of the detainees are Catholic, and for those who are, we strive to provide meaningful spiritual accompaniment during an extraordinarily difficult and uncertain time in their lives.At the heart of that accompaniment is the presence of a Catholic priest. The priestly presence at the facility provides the foundation from which the sacramental and spiritual life of the Catholic detainees can be sustained. Only a priest can offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and the Sacrament of Reconciliation, as well as provide Eucharistic Adoration and priestly spiritual accompaniment to those standing at a crossroads in their lives and facing deeply distressing circumstances.
Our role is to help support and extend that ministry of presence—bringing practical assistance, spiritual resources, human connection, and continuity to people who may otherwise experience profound isolation.
Because the population is continually changing, this is not a one-time need. New people arrive, others depart, and the opportunity to accompany each person may be brief. For that reason, the ministry requires an ongoing commitment of both presence and resources.
FOUNDATIONAL SUPPORT
My goal is to gradually transition from outside employment into full-time ministry as the financial foundation of Spes Nova becomes strong enough to sustain it.
To transition into full-time ministry and dedicate myself fully to this work, Spes Nova must have a reliable financial foundation capable of sustaining both the ministry and the day-to-day costs required to carry it out.As a one-person team, that means covering not only the direct needs of the people and programs we serve, but also the ordinary costs of operating a small business and ministry: a modest living income so I can step away from outside employment; transportation, vehicle insurance, maintenance, oil changes, fuel, and registration; program supplies and materials; internet, website hosting, and domain fees; payment-processing fees; utilities; business licensing and registration; taxes; and the many other recurring costs necessary to keep the work moving.
At present, carrying both my personal needs and the financial needs of the ministry exceeds my individual capacity. That is why we are seeking individuals and companies willing to become foundational, recurring supporters of Spes Nova.

VEHICLE DONATION OR VEHICLE SWAP
From time to time, Spes Nova has needs that go beyond ordinary program expenses—needs where a particular gift can significantly increase our ability to serve.
MINISTRY VEHICLEOne of our current special needs is a reliable, economical vehicle suitable for the demands of ministry travel.
We are seeking a reliable, fuel-efficient vehicle capable of safely transporting our team and outreach supplies.Spes Nova currently operates a well-maintained 2010 Ford Focus with approximately 170,000 miles. It has served faithfully, but the demands of this ministry increasingly require dependable transportation for long-distance travel, including regular trips to detention facilities, as well as transporting books, rosaries, care supplies, and other ministry materials.Because Spes Nova is currently a one-person operation with limited financial capacity, the cost of operating the vehicle matters just as much as acquiring it. A vehicle that is expensive to fuel, insure, maintain, or repair could ultimately become a financial burden rather than a help to the ministry.
This vehicle would directly support the work of mercy: making the long drive to detention facilities, transporting materials and supplies, and helping us remain present where people need accompaniment and practical assistance.
For that reason, we are specifically seeking a fuel-efficient, reliable, reasonably economical vehicle appropriate for frequent highway travel. Our preference is for a compact SUV, crossover, or hatchback, such as a Ford Escape, Ford Fusion, Pontiac Vibe, or a comparable vehicle.
We are grateful for every offer of assistance, but we also want to be responsible stewards of what is given. The right vehicle is not necessarily the largest or newest vehicle—it is one that Spes Nova can reliably operate and maintain while putting it to work in service of others.

Efficient & Practical: 4-cylinder compact sedan, compact SUVs, crossovers, or hatchbacks (e.g., Ford Escape, Ford Fusion, Pontiac Vibe) affordable, readily available domestic parts; other models can be considered.
Clear Documentation: Clean title free of liens, with no flood damage or severe salvage history.
Inspection: Willingness to allow a brief safety check by a trusted local mechanic.

A: Spes Nova is currently in its early stage, founded and operated as a true "one-woman" labor of love.Transitioning to a formal 501(c)(3) non-profit requires a board of directors, complex legal structures, and administrative overhead that exceed my financial and operational capacity while establishing these core mercy programs.Operating as an LLC allows me to move quickly, respond directly to immediate needs, and focus my time and energy on hands-on outreach. Establishing a non-profit structure remains an active growth goal as our support network, board, and operational scale expand!

A: Our immediate goal is to gradually transition from part-time ministry to a sustainable foundation that allows Spes Nova to operate as a full-time ministry.Contributions concurrently support the basic operating needs of Spes Nova—including the time I am able to devote to this work—and our active mercy projects.As support grows, it allows me to reduce outside work hours and replace them with more hands-on ministry, while concurrently continuing to provide direct aid to those we serve.Our annual baseline goal of $50,000 represents the level needed to make that full-time transition sustainable. A: We share appropriate updates through our website and social media, including photos of donated supplies, ministry materials, preparation, travel, and other non-identifying glimpses of the work. From time to time, we may also share portions of the ministry journey itself—such as traveling to a ministry site or beginning the day in prayer—when appropriate and permitted.Because the people we serve deserve privacy and dignity, our updates will not depend on showing vulnerable individuals. Instead, we share the work itself, the needs being met, and the impact of your support.

A: Spes Nova has three active areas of mercy, each with a distinct purpose.Detention Accompaniment focuses on bringing hope, prayer, human connection, and practical spiritual resources to people experiencing confinement, language isolation, and spiritual solitude. This includes approved reading materials, rosaries and prayer resources, and bilingual conversation and Bible study.Foster Care Ministry focuses on helping children in transition experience safety, love, joy, normalcy, and enrichment. Support may provide the everyday extras that help a child feel celebrated and cared for—from school and birthday needs to outings, seasonal clothing, and other age-appropriate enrichment.Unhoused Outreach focuses on meeting people where they are through low-barrier, direct assistance. This may include emergency supplies, food and water, seasonal necessities, transportation and medical assistance, prayer, and human connection.Within each ministry, needs are identified through direct involvement, relationships, and the circumstances encountered in the field. This allows Spes Nova to remain responsive to immediate needs while staying faithful to the purpose of each area of mercy.Our goal is simple: to meet people where they are with practical help, human presence, and a reminder of their inherent dignity.
